Property Tax Reform
Dan Quart has been a leader in Albany in advocating for the reform of New York City’s property tax system. New York City’s property tax system, fundamentally unchanged since its creation in 1981, is in desperate need of comprehensive reform. Dan authored a “white paper” detailing the inequities within the four class system, and in 2015 convened an Assembly oversight hearing with the New York City Department of Finance to address the need to reform the City’s property tax system. Dan supports the reorganization and simplification of the four class property tax system into a simpler system comprised of residential and commercial owners, as well as the elimination of the artificial caps within the property tax system that are regressive and deprive the City of revenue.
